Comparing Skid Steer Tire Sizes, Pneumatic Vs. Solid

Using the Correct Tire Size

Knowing what size of tire you need for your skid steer is helpful when purchasing new tires for your machine. If a tire is too large or too small, the attachment you are using will not be level. If you are operating on a larger skid steer and using tires that are too small you also wear tires out faster than you should.

Pneumatic Measurements vs. Solid Measurements

The three most common skid steer tire sizes are:
10x16.5 size Skid steer tires
12x16.5 size Skid steer tires
14x17.5 size       Skid steer tires

The issue with this measurement system is that it does not give the total diameter of the tire, rubber included. There are no standardized specs for skid steer tires, so skid steer tires vary in size. Solid skid steer tires are measured differently, including the total diameter, width, and rim diameter. Even with these measurements, all solid tires are not made true-to-spec. This means you could get a slightly larger or smaller tire than advertised.

Flat-free skid steer tires are often advertised with pneumatic measurements to make purchasing easier. This makes it easier for them to see which tires will fit their machines even if the measurements are different.

10x16.5  =  31x10x20  skid steer tires
12x16.5  =  31x12x20  skid steer tires
14x17.5  =  36x14x24  skid steer tires

Why it is Important to get a True-To-Spec Tire

A true-to-spec tire will be exactly the size advertised. Evolution Wheels' tires are all true-to-spec. So you know exactly what you are purchasing. Check out the EWRS-HS Series and EWRS-AT Series product videos. In these videos, we measure the tires so you know the exact dimensions of the product and whether it will work for you.
